Tips for red lipstick: A guide to achieving the perfect look
Hey, y’all. I promise you this is a fun one today. My question today is: are you a red lipstick lover? We need to face it, sometimes all we really need is a little red lipstick and a little bit of light makeup to change our entire look. Honestly, it can really set us up to rock our entire outfit and makeup look.
While I was looking for pictures to post of a good makeup look that I have done, I realized that I have not really been taking too many selfies when I wear makeup and that is ok, too. Sometimes, we all need a break, truly. However, I found this great picture of me with red lipstick and a tad bit of makeup from a few years ago, and I was sold. I must admit, I am a big-time red lipstick lover, and I even love bright pinks, truly. But when I saw this picture I thought, I have to post it and give some tips for wearing that favorite red lipstick. So, here we are.
With that said, I did want to share some tips for finding the perfect lipstick if you are a lipstick lover and some tips on how to apply it. So, here we go.
Matte or shiny?
- Decide whether you want a matte or shiny lipstick. There are even some semi-shiny ones out there that are somewhere in between.
How bold to go?
- Decide how bold you want the shade to be. Do you want a more toned-down red, a bright red, or a more orangey red?
The search begins
- After you have chosen these two, preferably go to a location where they sell makeup or search for the one you want online.
Line that lip
- Once you have the lipstick, make sure you line your lips either with a lip liner or even with the actual red lipstick you have chosen.
Fill it in, baby
- After lining your lips, it is now time to fill in your lips with the chosen red lipstick.
Time to blot
- Blot your lips together, do not skip this step. This will allow for a more even look to your lipstick.
Remove the excess
- Remove excess lipstick, especially on the sides of your lips.
Go for the gloss (if you would like)
- Final step, and this one is just a bonus and is not necessary but apply a good lip gloss that does not change the color of the chosen shade too much.
So, what do you think of these tips for the creating the best red lipstick looks for you? I think that red lipstick really does set the tone for the rest of the makeup and look. I would love to read what you have to say in the comments below.

I like the idea of the tutorial for something that looks so simple but in reality it is a skill that unfortunately don’t have haha! I never really know how to apply lipstick so this might have convinced me to try again! And you are right, red looks good on you!
