DIY Hair Masks at Home: Easy Hair Care Tips

Today I wanted to talk about something that may be new to some of you, even though it has always been pretty normal for me: DIY hair masks at home. I don’t know if it’s a Puerto Rican thing or just something my family has always done, but homemade hair treatments have been around me for as long as I can remember.

Have you guys ever tried a homemade hair mask? Oh, my goodness… game changer, for sure! Depending on the recipe, you might use simple ingredients like avocado, oils, honey, or other things you may already have at home. And the best part? Your DIY hair mask doesn’t have to be complicated.

Healthy hair can be yours

There is one that my mom and later on my uncle taught me a long time ago that I used to use a lot and that one is amazing! I am going to have to get the recipe and make a video about it because it is so healthy for your hair. But, even if you do not have the recipe for that specific one, you can find plenty of homemade DIY hair masks online. Do a quick search and you will be successful in finding one.

I am telling you, this is such a game changer for your haircare routine, seriously. You do not even have to have complex ones either. One of them is as simple as putting mayonnaise in your hair. I know, I know… it sounds gross and some of these masks are kind of crazy looking when you look at them and all that. But I am telling you – the end result is so worth it. It seriously is!

I honestly have known about the incredible benefits of DIY hair masks for maintaining luscious locks. Here are three tips to help you create and enjoy your very own hair masks at home. By following these tips, you can create customized hair masks that nourish and rejuvenate your locks from the comfort of your home.

Tips for DIY hair masks at home

1) Know Your Hair Type

Think about your hair’s unique needs before choosing ingredients for your DIY hair mask. If your hair tends to feel dry, you might prefer richer ingredients such as avocado, honey, or certain oils. If your hair gets oily easily, you may want to keep your mask lighter and focus mainly on the lengths and ends.

2) Keep the Ingredients Simple

One of my favorite things about DIY hair masks is that they don’t have to be complicated. Ingredients like avocado, honey, banana, yogurt, and certain oils are commonly used in homemade hair masks. Try simple combinations and pay attention to how your own hair responds.

3) Pay Attention to What Works for Your Hair

Everyone’s hair is different, so a DIY hair mask that someone else loves may not give you the same results. Start occasionally, see how your hair responds, and adjust your routine from there.
